The action in this novel, PFUMP - Partnership Funding Upper Midwest Pipelines - is triggered by three actual, simultaneous-occurring, explosive events; the shocking outcome of the 2016 presidential election, the sudden collapse of North Dakota's oil market, and the Sioux protesting that PFUMP pipeline construction. These three events trigger immediate response problems for the Governor. It seems ISIS (or, most probably, certainly not-ISIS) mercenaries blowing up Oil rigs and other oily things in Williston. Winter blows snow and freezing temperatures. Most Insurance covering these blowing and blowing-up things ain't kicking in as scheduled! How can Governor Rolfes possibly pull enough strings to stop the wealth of his state from flowing down that Missouri River, down toward Texas or someplace? The governor's 86 year old mother has the ability to solve this massive platter of hardship - her weapon is meatloaf with mashed potatoes and scalloped-corn casserole!

Bill Nemmers, born in a NW Iowa farming community, earned an MFA in Architecture from the University of Illinois. He was immediately drafted and sent, not to Vietnam, but Germany, to do secret things concerning nuclear facilities installations. From 1969 to 2004 he worked for a Boston architectural firm, then established his own practice in Maine. He returned to the Prairie to be closer to his parents, studied writing at Minneapolis' Loft Literary Center; and travelled extensively in Europe - specifically Portugal. He's published two books: a black oily novel (CRUDE) set in the black North Dakota oil-fields, and a fictionalized account of his European Army time (Mothers Hurling Bricks) doing strange things along the Iron Curtain. He's been, for several years, writing a scientific history of the sad 15th century Portuguese humanist movement (Prince Henry and his Navigators and Cosmologists) versus the Vatican (and its Inquisition).
