Pirate, the baby kookaburra, has landed in a garden where three dogs and a cat find him. He is unable to remember where he came from and has not yet learned to laugh. The dogs, Stelze, Hoover and Ajax, and Buddah the cat, decide to help him find his memory, and to teach him to laugh. They set off to show Pirate around, hoping that he will recognize a place in the bush environment. As they go Pirate imagines himself as a real pirate, and his new friends join in his games of fighting imaginary foes, searching for treasure, having a pirate party and telling jokes.

Australian writer Adrian Plitzco was born in Switzerland and has a background in drama education for children. He is now an audio book producer as well as a producer and broadcaster at the multicultural radio station SBS in Melbourne/Australia. He hosts a monthly children¿s show for the German language program and writes and produces radio plays. Adrian Plitzco also writes fiction (Der harte Engel ¿ published in Germany).
