This book demonstrates the variability and extension of environmental pollutants in water and wastewater, besides with recent technological developments in wastewater treatment. It covers review articles and research studies written in a clear style, that makes it informative for scientists, researchers, professionals, and students. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge regarding source, transport and fate of not only emerging compounds, but also pollutants gaining importance over time, such as pharmaceuticals, microplastics, and viruses. It ensures to understand the dimension of the adverse effects on ecosystem and human health through various exposure pathway. The book also covers recent trends in wastewater treatment, with a focus on membrane technologies allowing to remove even very small concentrations of pollutants.

Autorenporträt
Fatma Beduk studied Environmental Engineering at Selcuk University in Konya, Türkiye (1995-1999) and received her Ph.D. in 2010 in the field of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) from Selcuk University. She was appointed as Assistant Prof. Dr. in 2011 and Associate Prof. Dr. in 2017 at Necmettin Erbakan University, in Konya, Türkiye. She was appointed in 2023 as Full Professor and now working there. Her teaching and research subjects cover water pollution and control, soil pollution and control, water and wastewater treatment methods, ecotoxicology, ozone-based advanced oxidation processes, and passive sampling methods. She has been working as Head Assessor of Turkish Accreditation Agency for accreditation of environmental analysis laboratories since 2011.   Senar Aydin has studied in Environmental Engineering Department at Selçuk University in Konya, Türkiye (1995-1999) and received her Doctorate in 2007 in the field of analyses of micro-pollutants such as pesticides, PAHs, and PCBs in Environment at Environmental Engineering Department of Selçuk University. She was appointed as Assistant Prof. Dr. in Environmental Engineering Department of Selçuk University in 2010 and then as Associate Prof. Dr. in 2012. Since 2017, she is Full Professor in Environmental Engineering Department of Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya, Turkey. Her teaching and research cover unit processes, laboratory application of unit processes, water pollution, water and wastewater treatment, ecotoxicology, PAHs, PCBs, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and illicit drugs in environment. She was Head of department between 2011 and 2021. She published 125 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and proceedings volumes; 52 presentations in National symposiums; and 8 international book chapters.       Ali Müfit Bahadir studied chemistry at the Free University Berlin and Bonn University in Germany, received his Ph.D. 1975 from Bonn University and his Assoc. Prof. 1988 from Munich Technical University. He became Full Professor of Environmental and Sustainable Chemistry at the Technische Universität Braunschweig in 1989. Since 1997, he is Honorary Doctor and Visiting Professor at the Selcuk University Konya in Turkey. His research fields cover environmental chemistry and analyses, environmental pollution through industrial processes and products, pesticide chemistry and metabolism in soil and water, ecotoxicology, sustainable chemistry, renewable feed stocks, and biodiesel and bio-lubricants. During the last twenty years, his research focused on R&D of sustainable water and wastewater management in developing countries. He retired in 2016.   Andreas Haarstrick studied Chemistry at the Technische Universität Braunschweig (1983-1989) and received his doctorate in 1992 in bioengineering. Since 2006, he is Professor for Bioprocess Engineering at the TU Braunschweig. His teaching and research cover modelling biological and chemical processes in heterogeneous systems, development of models predicting pollutant reduction in and emission behaviour of landfills, growth kinetics at low substrate concentrations under changing environmental conditions, Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP), and groundwater management. Since 2012, he is Managing Director of the DAAD exceed-Swindon Project dealing with sustainable water management in developing countries.
