This book assists design engineers in making the design trade-offs and the necessary decisions in the various stages of the design in a wide range of engineering applications. It covers mechanisms of rotational motion; variable speed drives; mechanisms of cyclic motion; lubrication systems; and components of mechanisms. The book provides extensive reference information, while stressing the role of the design engineer throughout, as well as the design trade-offs to be made in practical engineering scenarios.

Autorenporträt
Boris M. Klebanov, PhD, has accumulated approximately 50 years of professional experience in the design of diesel engines and drive units for marine and land applications, reduction gears, hydraulic devices, and mine-clearing equipment. Dr. Klebanov is the author of many articles and the coauthor of three books in the field of machinery. He worked from 1959 to 1990 in St. Petersburg, Russia, as a designer and head of the gear department in a company in the heavy engine industry and then at Israel Aerospace Industry (IAI) as a principal mechanical engineer until 2009. Dr. Klebanov is now retired.

Morel Groper, PhD, served from 1987 to 2010 in the Israeli Navy as a design engineer, a navy shipyard chief marine engineer, and as the navy head of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Dr. Groper earned his PhD in 1999 from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. In 2010, Dr. Groper retired from the navy and launched his R&D company to provide comprehensive mechanical engineering and naval architecture services to naval, marine, offshore, and industrial sectors. In 2014, Dr. Groper joined the University of Haifa to promote his research work.
