She finds out that the old man had went away to war without telling the woman of his dreams how he felt about her. Both ended up marrying other people and the romance that could have been was not allowed to happen. Carolyn does a little research and finds out who the woman was that the man was pining for (she is now divorced) and sets out to find her so the old man can have peace on his deathbed.
