Queer Families, Common Agendas examines the real life experiences of people affected by current laws and policies regarding homosexual families. You will compare the progress of policy in the U.S. and Canada in relation to gay and lesbian parents and their children, and explore relevant legal approaches among the two countries. A range of strategies for advancing the equality rights of sexual minority parents are considered from the perspective of legal feasibility and political viability. You will also examine the contradictions in policies and practices that ultimately disadvantage children based on their family origins and learn alternative approaches for improved services to homosexual families.
