Grigori Rasputin (1869-1916) was a Russian monk and one of the controversial figures of the twentieth century. He was known for his closeness to the Russian royal family, especially Tsar Nicholas II and his wife, Tsarina Alexandra. Rasputin was considered a prophet, a holy man, and a healer, and he claimed to be able to cure the Tsar's son, Alexei, who was suffering from hemophilia (a blood clotting disorder). Rasputin had great influence in the royal family, and had a strong influence on the decisions of the tsar and tsarina. Many romantic relationships were attributed to him, perhaps the most famous of which was with the wife of Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia, Mrs. Alix of Hesse, which raised a lot of criticism and doubts. He was able to manipulate In Russian politics and interferes in state affairs. In the end, a group of members supporting the opposition movement in Russia assassinated Rasputin in December 1916. People found his body floating on the surface of the river. Despite his death, his negative impact on the royal reputation and the weakness of the Tsardom remained clear, and this contributed to the exacerbation of the events that eventually led to the Russian Revolution in 1917 and the fall of the monarchy.
