Divorce of parents is a trauma for a child. Everyone knows about this, and every responsible parent who has a broken relationship with his spouse worries and asks questions: is it worth it to get a divorce if it will hurt my child? How to tell a child about a divorce? How to build a relationship with a partner after a divorce so that the child does not "spoil"? The book "The Drawbridge", written by several authors, including lawyers - specialists in family law, and psychologists, and most importantly - parents who have experienced their own divorce, answers these and many other questions. The authors of the book have combined both personal and professional experience to create a comprehensive guide to dealing with a child in a divorce situation. The book has eight chapters, each of which offers a detailed answer to the most pressing questions for children: "Why doesn't dad live with us anymore?", "Why did you and dad get divorced?", "Does dad have a different family?" other. Each chapter is preceded by real dialogues with a child who survived a divorce, and mothers - one of the authors of the book. Further, psychologists and lawyers comment on the most typical problems that parents face during a divorce, give advice on maintaining good relations with a child and an ex-spouse. In Chapter Nine, "How to Make the Divorce Situation Least Painful and Safest for the Child?" - the authors summarize their recommendations, offering a short algorithm of actions for parents who want to make their divorce less traumatic for the child. The authors of the book, based on their experience, take an unequivocal position: you should not try to save an upset marital relationship by continuing to live together "for the sake of the children" - practice shows that it is worse for children. The trauma of a child during the separation of parents is inevitable, but there are ways to help him survive this trauma with the least loss.
