Reading Between the Lines explores the enigmatic but important monument of the Neolithic landscape, the cursus. The book moves beyond a simple morphological description to considers what we can say about these monuments in light of several decades of aerial reconnaissance and excavation in Scotland. Brophy explores the idiosyncrasies of each site that are often hidden by the blanket application of the term cursus. It is from these differences as well as the similarities that a nuanced account of cursus monuments emerges, allowing this important monument type to be better understood and placed alongside others in the Neolithic landscape.
