Don't Take Your Guns to Town" A 1958 song by Johnny Cash I remember the first time I heard this song. I was driving home from work. When the song was over, I couldn't concentrate on the other songs that were playing on the radio. The words, "Don't Take Your Guns to Town" kept going over and over in my head. Now, years later, as I recall the song, "Don't Take Your Guns to Town" I was inspired to write this story.

Justifiable homicide. That's what they called it. Therefore, I only had to serve twenty years instead of the mandatory life sentence, for murder. The judge said I could have been hanged. I got out in seventeen years for good behavior. Now here I am on my way home, wondering if I still have a home, still have a wife. Do I still have a son? Did she wait, like she said she would in the few letters that I received? I wouldn't blame her if she didn't. Seventeen years is a long time to wait for a passionate woman like her.
The story of an Ex-Gunfighter just released after seventeen years in prison on his way home. The thoughts and memories that go through his head while traveling toward his home.

Autorenporträt
I really can't explain how or why I write. It's like an explosion in my brain and the words come flowing out like a raging river and then other times like a frozen glazier. I wrote a twenty-eight page booklet of poetry over the course of two days and nights. I mention nights because as soon as my head hits the pillow, it's like a switch goes off in my brain and I have to write. J.C. Hulsey

J.C. Hulsey has lived in Midlothian, Texas for thirty years. He's a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He has been married for 56 years. He enjoys Western movies and TV Shows, (especially the older ones) and reading about Mail-Order Brides. He is also the owner of six cats (all stray cats, showed up on the back porch) and one dog (rescue dog) He worked for 33 years at Bell Helicopter. He served in the USAF for five years, and the Air National Guard for four years.

He has always wanted to be an author.

He started writing songs in his early twenties. He recorded a couple of songs in the late 1960s. He started writing poetry in the 1970s to share with others. He self-published them on Amazon in 2013. He still felt the need to write something different. He tried writing a book in the 1970s, but it was never finished. In 2014, he felt the urge to write a western novel. However, he needed something different than what was on the market.
