In 1974, the seven-year dictatorship collapsed in Greece under the weight of the Cypriot tragedy caused by the Turkish invasion of the island following the coup against Makarios. The months that followed (July 1974-June 1975) marked the period of Regime Change, that is, the restoration of democracy, which occurred in such a short period of time that it was internationally referred to as the "Greek miracle". It was during this time that the foundations were laid for the most mature period of the Greek parliamentary regime and for the most prosperous period of the new Greek state.
