When Reiffen is suddenly kidnapped, Ferris's and Avender's choice is easy. With the help of Redburr and Nolo, they decide to rescue their friend before they even know for sure who has taken him, setting off on a chase that will take them from the snow-capped peaks of the High Bavadars to balloon rides beneath the bottom of the world.

Also included in this edition is Mennon's Ride, a poem that tells the tale of how humans and Bryddin first met.
