How do you define self-love?
There's been a lot of talk lately about self-love. It sounds good, but what does it really mean? What is the best way to love ourselves? And why does it really matter?
Self-love is the ability to fully accept and love yourself, as well as respect yourself and promote health and growth.
Self-love is not only about what you do to yourself, but also about your thoughts and opinions about yourself. When you think about self-love, you are able to imagine what you would do for yourself. You are also able to imagine what you would say to yourself and what you think about yourself in a way that shows the love and care you have for yourself.
When you feel good about yourself, you are able to have an overall positive view of yourself. This does not mean that you are constantly confident in yourself. It is not realistic. For example, I can sometimes feel angry, frustrated or dissatisfied with myself and still love myself. If this seems hard for you to understand, think about how this happens with other people. I am able to be a parent to my child, even if I feel dissatisfied or angry with him. Despite my anger and dislike, my love for him is the basis of my relationship with him. It helps me accept his feelings, respond to his needs, and make decisions that benefit him. Self-love is similar. Therefore, if you have the capacity to love other people, you are also capable of loving yourself!

What is the reason we are required to be able to love ourselves?
If you haven't had any self-love role models, or someone who has taught you how essencial it is to be kind to yourself, you may be skeptical of its worth.
Without self-love you are likely to be self-critical and fall into perfectionistic and people-pleasing tendencies. You are more likely to accept inhumane treatment or abuse from others. You may neglect your personal wants and needs because you feel you are not worth it. You self-destruct or make decisions that are not in your best interests.
Self-love is the foundation that allows us to be assertive in setting boundaries, establishing boundaries, and building healthy relationships with others. take care of ourselves, pursue our goals and interests, and be confident in who we are.
