About the Author Elifcan Karacan has studied gender studies and sociology at Middle East Technical Unive

rsity in Turkey. She defended her PhD thesis in sociology at Siegen University, Germany. Recently, she is doing her post-doc research on socio-political background of the concept of "Almanci" (Germanlike) at Bremen University, Intercultural Education Department.
