This book aims to establish a community with attention to land use to achieve sustainable development and meet the needs of today’s society. Professor Hassan Abdalla is an international authority in the fields of sustainability; engineering design; factories of the future; artificial intelligence in design; and future smart cities. He has over 20 years of experience in both academia and industry. He is a fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce, fellow of the IMechE, and principal fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He was awarded a Medal of Appreciation by the IMS Centre in Tokyo, an institute under the auspices of the Japanese Government, in recognition of his innovation and substantial contribution to international collaboration with Kajima Corporation, Hazama Corporation, University of Tokyo, and Waseda University. He is the author and co-author of over 150 papers published in international journals and conferences worldwide. He is currently the Provost of the University of East London and a member of the UK TEF Panel. Professor Abdalla is the series editor responsible for evaluating book proposals in the field of Sustainability and Artificial Intelligence in Design. Hugo Rodrigues is an associated professor at the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Aveiro. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Aveiro in 2012. His experience in Seismic analysis, having participated as a team member in research and development projects, specialized consultancy studies ordered by several public institutions and companies regarding the assessment of seismic risk. His major research interests are building rehabilitation, structural health monitoring, and seismic safety including experimental and numerical activities. He is a research member of the RIsks and Sustainability in COnstruction (RISCO). He has co-authored several publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals national and international meetings. Dr. Vimal Kr. Gahlot is currently associated with Public Works Department, Government of Rajasthan, Jaipur. He is also the honorary director of Adv. CMG Centre for Research & Sustainable Development, Bikaner, Rajasthan. He has long experience of 17 years in the field of academics, research, development and execution of roads and highways projects. His research interests and area of working include highway and traffic engineering, public transport planning, pedestrian and non-motorized traffic planning, road safety audit, computer simulation & modeling, and application of geographic information system to transportation engineering. Dr. Gahlot has published more than 22 technical papers in international and national journals. Being a keen researcher, he has also attended many international–national conferences, workshops, seminars, and summits in India and abroad as a keynote speaker. In last few years, he is inclined to adapt and advocating sustainable and smart transport for Indian cities. He remains as an activemember of the Indian Road Congress (IRC) and Institute of Transport (IUT). He is a freelance technical and social articles writer for many national newspaper and magazines. Dr. Mohammad Salah Uddin is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the East West University Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prior to this, he was working as a researcher (Tradr—European project) in Sapienza University of Rome. After completing his B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from East West University in 2012, he joined as a lecturer at Central Women’s University, Bangladesh. In October 2013, he enrolled in Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, to pursue his Ph.D. degree and received the Ph.D. degree in Robotics in July 2017. His research mainly focuses on heterogeneous robotics system, task planning/allocation for multi-robotics system, IoT robotics, sensors and systems, embedded systems, Internet of things, computer vision, etc. He published several research papers in peer-reviewed conference/journal from his research work. In 2018, he delivered a speech in Maker Faire Shenzhen 2018, as a forum speaker. He is a member of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society as well as holds an IEEE professional membership. He has also some other National International membership. Dr. Tomohiro Fukuda is an associate professor in the Division of Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, Japan. He obtained his Ph.D. (1999), M.E. (1996), and B.E. (1994) in environmental engineering at Osaka University. He worked for Matsushita Electric Works Co., Ltd. (Current: Panasonic Corporation) from 1996 to 2004 and then has been an associate professor at Osaka University since 2004. He majors in environmental design and advanced information technology. His research interests are mainly environmental design and engineering, design support, computer-aided architectural design, spatial informatics and science, and media architecture. Especially he has developed environmental design support methods using virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR), three-dimensional modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), building information modeling (BIM), and artificial intelligence (AI). He has applied his developed methods to actual design projects such as Patio Design in Takamatsu Japan (2005–07), Next Gene 21+ in Taiwan (2007–08), VR Azuchi Castle in Omihachiman Japan (2011–15), and Mizuki Shigeru Road Renewal in Sakaiminato Japan (2016–18). He is a former president of CAADRIA (the association of Computer Aided Architectural Design Research in Asia) and past Representative of AIJ (Architectural Institute of Japan). He is a member of Education and research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe (eCAADe), Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE), The City Planning Institute of Japan (CPIJ), etc. He has published over 200 journals and international conferencepapers and 13 books (collective writing). He was made a CAADRIA Fellow (2019) and won the best award of the Kobe lighting design competition (2001), etc.
