Most of these stories are marked adult and have been described as different and often involve boy toys and a little social commentary. They aren't to everyone's taste but some people enjoy them. They are in British English even if set in North America. If you enjoy one, try another, if they aren't to your taste just move on to a different author.

Some are set in Regency England and explore a time when there were many changes over a short period of time. These are very not so mainstream and not quite so light hearted as some of the others.
