In this book, a reading of the history of the Greek state is mainly attempted, which is part of a more general international example of the history of states. Paradoxical as this may seem, the Greek historiography on the state may be quantitatively rich, but it is either characterized by theoretical models that are completely out of date in the international historical community or is still constructed on the basis of a perspective according to which the state is political history, in the sense of factual history. In this logic, public finances should not be included in the history of the state, nor state policies such as e.g. the agrarian reforms. It is evident that such a notion does not take us very far in understanding the history of the state. If, for example, fifty years later a historian attempted to write the history of Greece during the last decade without taking into account the recent ten-year crisis, the result would be weak in every way. Historical sociology, the example of which is adopted in the texts of this book, sought to avoid these pitfalls, greatly expanding the possibilities of understanding the history of the state internationally. Therefore, these ten texts aspire to talk about the history of the Greek state with greater consistency and effectiveness than it has happened to date in this particular field of the Greek historiography.
