Ruth Zimmerman is indeed "the farmer's wife!" She and her husband Steve, along with their five children, have owned and operated a pumpkin farm in rural Kansas for over 20 years. Even though Rigby is a fictional character, the book is based upon true events that take place at Hickory Creek Farm every fall.
