She was the eldest daughter of John Holt, and her mother, Judith, was the third daughter of James Mason of Greens. Holt is believed to have been educated at Oxford, where she developed her literary skills. She was known for her historical novels, many of which explored themes of love, loss, and the challenges of life in earlier centuries. Holt s works were often set in the medieval and early modern periods, reflecting her interest in historical events and characters.
