Rock dynamics has become an important area in the field of rock mechanics and engineering. Related subjects include the failure of rocks and rock masses in the form of rockbursting, spalling, popping, collapse, toppling and sliding, blasting, non-destructive testing, geophysical explorations and more. The few existing publications on rock dynamics tend to cover rock mechanics and engineering under static conditions. Advances in experimental procedures and computational technology have led to new ways to deal with various aspects of rock dynamics. Thus, this treatise is timely and will include fundamentals, experimental and numerical techniques and their practical applications.
