The first part begins with the most ancient times in the territory of Russia, ends with a period of political restoration in the noble Russia of Peter's times. In the second part there is a whole section devoted to the problems of "Western Russia", incl. Ukraine. Further, the Peter's epoch, the Biron regime, attempts to create a semblance of a constitutional monarchy under Alexander I.
