Autorenporträt
Ibrahim Spahic was born on May 10, 1952 in Sarajevo. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature and Theatre Studies.
Spahic is an author, editor, publisher and producer. He is the president of the International Centre for Peace and director of the international festival Sarajevo Winter. He is also the president of the Publishers' and Booksellers' Association of Bosnia & Herzegovina, the GDS (Citizens' Democratic Party) of Bosnia & Herzegovina, the International foundation Kulin ban, the IITM for B&H, the House of Europe Sarajevo, and the Commission for Cultural Strategy Development in B&H. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Cultural Forum in Brussels and the Executive Committee of the International Biennale Association of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean, and an honorary member of the Bosnia & Herzegovina PEN Centre and the Sarajevo Association of Architects.
Spahic was the first president of the Biennale International Association of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean, and has been president of
-the Euroregion Link Diversity project,
- the E xecutive Committee of the Citizens' Forum,
- the Organizational Committee of the Sarajevo Euroregion,
and the Management Committee of the National Theatre in Sarajevo.
He founded the Student Cultural Centre at the Sarajevo University, was founder and president of the Art Community Collegium artisticum and the eco-movement Skakavac, editor in-chief of the magazine for human rights WHY, and co-publisher of the magazine Dijalog. Spahic was a member of the Executive Committee of the European Committee for Culture of the European Council, and president of the project Sarajevo Cultural Centre of Europe 1993/94, and of the EC board "Sarajevo the first intercultural city of the European Council". He has also been a member of the MESS Council and of the jury of various European festivals, and sat on the Executive Committee of the European Association of Festivals. He was the first president of the Lions Club in Sarajevo.
Spahic was a representative in the Bosnia & Herzegovina Parliament Assembly for three terms.
He has received many awards both in Bosnia & Herzegovina and abroad for his efforts to establish intercultural dialogue, and is a recognised peace and freedom fighter. He has been awarded the title of Knight of Art and Literature.
