Tans is sy besig met navorsing oor watervoels vir 'n PhD aan die Percy FitzPatrick Institute of African ornithology. Nicholas Tye het 'n MSc in Ekologie aan die Universiteit van die Witwatersrand behaal met navorsing oor voelgemeenskappe binne die KNP. Hy het as ornitoloog vir die provinsiale regering van Noordwes gewerk en is tans 'n klimaatsverandering-konsultant in Kaapstad.
