Autorenporträt
Rafael Sabatini was born on April 29, 1875, in Italy to opera-singer parents, giving him an early exposure to multiple languages and cultures. He became proficient in several languages, eventually choosing to write in English, believing it produced the best stories. His early career involved writing short stories, but it wasn't until the success of Scaramouche (1921) that he gained international fame.Sabatini followed Scaramouche with Captain Blood (1922), cementing his reputation as a master of historical adventure novels. He continued to write prolifically, producing 34 novels, numerous short stories, and several plays. Many of his works were adapted into films, further broadening his influence in popular culture.Despite his literary success, Sabatini faced personal tragedies, including the death of his son and stepson in accidents. After a lengthy and accomplished career, he passed away in 1950 in Switzerland, leaving behind a lasting legacy in adventure fiction.
