Frederick J. Burbach lost his mother at age two. In this memoir he tells of his Irish grandmother who was one of the Orphan Train orphans. He tells of his German Grandparents and his strict Catholic upbringing. From a difficult childhood, he survived and succeeded through education and the army to achieve a good life, and a wonderful family. His motto, "Life is what you make it!"
