Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Pädagogik - Schulpädagogik, Note: Sehr gut, Universität Wien (Institut für Erziehungswissenschaft), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In mainstream classes, children with special educational needs are taught together with children who do not have such special needs. In a society where efficiency is considered highly important, many parents are concerned whether a mainstream class will meet their non-handicapped children’s needs as well as a regular class. This diploma thesis will introduce an empirical study on Viennese primary school children’s mathematical performance. The results are in accordance with research findings in this regard insofar, as there is no significant difference between the performance of non-handicapped children in mainstream classes and that of non-handicapped children in regular classes. With an equally high standard of performance, on the one hand, as well as a commitment to mainstreaming by all political parties, on the other hand, the continuity and improvement of mainstream classes in Austria is to be expected.
