An alien presence called Bekomdef watches with interest. It knows why Juventas is so strange and why the colony's early days were tough. After all, it had been responsible. Its duty might force it to intervene again.

Mark W White is an author of SF & fantasy tales.

After a too-successful career in software management, he decided to reinvent himself as a full-time author.

His first major project was an SF trilogy based upon an idea twenty-five years in the making: The Tamboli Sequence, comprising A Vision of Unity, A Division of Order, and A Revision of Reality.

Then a change of pace: a speculative family tale set in rural England. In Memory of Chris Parsons was a more personal story set in a world that wasn't quite what it seemed.

Next, he drew upon his earliest employment in the stuffy civil service corridors of the late 1970s. What would be the perfect vehicle for that?

Why, a light fantasy novel in a society with low-level, everyday magic, naturally. The world of The Mufflers was born, starting with The Muffler's Ministry. The Muffler's Mission is its sequel, with more to come. ​

He is currently undergoing delusions of grandeur, uniting his novels into a single, overarching universe using the short story collection, Mutterings of Consequence, available free via his website.
