Is fada muid ag fanacht ar chéad mhórshaothar próis seo Chathal Uí Shearcaigh. Cur síos atá ann ar a chuid taistil i Neipeal, agus léirítear ann an gean atá aige ar an tír agus ar a phobal.

Is fada muid ag fanacht ar chéad mhórshaothar próis seo Chathal Uí Shearcaigh. Cur síos atá ann ar a chuid taistil i Neipeal, agus léirítear ann an gean atá aige ar an tír agus ar a phobal.

Cuirtear tús leis an leabhar in Kathmandu, an phríomhchathair, agus tá cur síos dathannach, fileata déanta ag an Searcach uirthi agus is iomaí scéal saoithiúil atá aige dúinn faoin gcathair chéanna.

Fágann Gúrú na gCnoc an chathair ina dhiaidh ansin agus téann sé ar aistear fisiciúil agus ar aistear spioradálta trí gharbhchríocha Neipeal. Bíonn idir ghreann agus ghaois i ndán dó ar an turas. Tugtar le fios dó, mar shampla, nach maith an sloinne atá air, mar go gciallaíonn sé gur d'ísealaicme na ngréasaithe é!

Is tarraingteach an leabhar é seo, leis, le grianghraif áille agus dánta.

This travel diary is Cathal Ó Searcaigh's long-awaited first major prose work. The book describes the charismatic Donegal poet's travels through Nepal, and uncovers his growing love affair with the country and its people.

The book begins in the bustling capital of Kathmandu, and the author's poetic descriptions bring to life this colourful city of contrasts and many of his experiences there will bring a smile to the reader's lips.

The Guru of the Hills, as Cathal is known, then leaves the capital and begins a spiritual and physical journey through the mountains of Nepal and the characters that he meets along the way light up the pages of the book.

The book is beautifully produced, and includes stunning photos, as well as poems by the author.

He studied French, Irish and Russian at the University of Limerick before beginning a course in Celtic Studies at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. He is one of Ireland's most renowned living poets. His first volume was Miontraigéide cathrach agus dánta eile (Cló Uí Chuirrín, 1975) and other early work was published in the anthology Túirlingt (Carbad, 1978), which he and Gabriel Rosenstock edited. The next solo volume was Súile Shuibhne (Coiscéim, 1983) followed four years later by Suibhne (Coiscéim, 1987). An bealach 'na bhaile was published first in Irish (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 1991) as a book and cassette package and later with English translations as Homecoming / An bealach 'na bhaile (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 1993) with an introductory essay by Lillis Ó Laoire. Na buachaillí bána (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 1996) is a collection that deals primarily with gay love and sexual awareness. A bilingual version of many of these and other poems was published as Out in the open (Cló Iar-Chonnachta, 1997) for which Frankie Sewell provided English translations. Ó Searcaigh's collected poems were published under the title Ag tnúth leis an tSolas: 1975-2000 (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 2001) which won The Irish Times award for literature in Irish. Caiseal na gCorr appeared in 2002 (Donegal County Council).
