Lajos Kossuth, born on September 19, 1802, in Monok, Kingdom of Hungary, was a Hungarian lawyer, journalist, politician, statesman, and Governor-President of the Kingdom of Hungary during the revolution of 1848–49. A fervent advocate for his country's independence and democratic reform, Kossuth's political fervor and eloquence positioned him as a prominent leader in the fight against Habsburg rule.
