The Animal Farm is a parable, an allegory for the 1917 revolution and subsequent events in Russia. Reminiscences of the Spanish War is an essay on the civil war between the Spanish left and the fascists, in which Orwell warns of the danger of an impending totalitarianism, asserted largely by the manipulation, propaganda and cowardly compromise of the liberals. It is a passionate anti-war, humanistic appeal of the writer, containing ideas that have developed in the works of fiction presented in this collection.
