Josh's eyebrows rose a few notches as I explained my idea to him.
"What kinds of things would I have to do?" Of course, that was his first concern. I couldn't really blame him for that. He's not known for being the most outgoing person. Neither am I, come to think of it. If we did this, it was going to be a giant leap out of the old comfort zone for both of us.
I formulated my reply carefully so I didn't completely turn him off of the idea. "Nothing too weird or anything, don't worry. Maybe some dance lessons, dinner out once a week, maybe go to some local events..." I trailed off, noticing that his expression was getting less and less agreeable with every word I spoke.
"What would you do in return, Lydia?"
Oh boy. Here comes the uncomfortable part. "I...would be willing to experiment more...sexually...like you've wanted me to for years."
His eyes popped open in disbelief. I could understand his astonishment, since he had been trying to get me to loosen up in the bedroom for a long time and I always resisted it. I don't know why it's so hard for me to lose my inhibitions.
Josh laughed loudly. "You? Experiment sexually? Sweetheart, I've been trying to get you to do that for a long time now and you won't budge. Why, all of a sudden, are you willing to do it now?"
My face flamed red. "Because...I feel like we've been drifting apart for a long time now, and we need to work harder on our relationship. Part of that will involve doing more things together, things we both enjoy, so I figured a compromise might be the key. We'll do some things I like and some things you like...so we'll both be happier."
Josh grinned and got up from his chair, grabbed my face and planted a passionate kiss on my lips. "You know I love you, right? I always have, Lydia. And I would have kept loving you even if you weren't willing to explore. But now that I know you are, I'm going to plan some really cool stuff for us." Before I could respond he strolled out to the garage with a big smile pasted on his face, probably to start researching kinky sex stuff on his laptop.
