Roberta Evadne Sawyers was born in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of seven, she and her family moved from Michigan to San Diego, California. Dogs and cats were always important members of the family. She earned her bachelor's, teaching credential, and master's from San Diego State University. For twenty-three years, she worked as an educator and vice principal. She currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
