Enter Manivannan: a small time house broker in Kolathur, Salem District, Tamilnadu, in an effort to expand his business finds out rather painfully that he has stepped unwittingly into a zone exclusively ruled by a local gang-lord, simply addressed as Anna or Big Brother - a ruthless individual with good political backing. Beaten and broken, Mani soon becomes one among the many stooges, touts, dealers and pimps Anna has inducted into his growing fold, running many errands and doing all the dirty work Anna throws at him. The threat to his little family is the driving force to perform. When his wife, Pushpa, fearing for their safety, eventually leaves him taking with her their only daughter Bhoomika, he considers the separation as Godsend. After witnessing a bloody heist gone horribly wrong, brutally victimizing a little girl that resembles Bhoomika, he sets into motion a slow process of transformation, of rediscovering his lost self, of reversing the slow but painful emasculation that he has been methodically subjected to, enlightened by the wisdom of a swamy and emboldened by the sweeping views of a fierce Hindu professor. Rising quietly from the ranks of the subdued, he willingly chooses to become, if not the hand of God, then a weapon of God, to become the Shivas trident.

Autorenporträt
I, Rudrappan, otherwise known shortly as Rudra, hail from Salem, a part of which along with districts of Erode and Coimbatore formed Kongu Nadu, the seat of Sangam period's Cheran dynasty of Tamilnadu. My father, Dr. Busnagi Rajannan, now deceased, strove for many years to put this land steeped in culture and history on the world map, a lifelong endeavor that resulted in production of many scholastic reference materials, that last of which and notably the best being Salem Cyclopedia, accepted and adopted by South Indian universities. While I'm in no way competent, qualified or knowledgeable to hold a light to my father's noble pursuit, I, in my own insignificant way, however would like to continue from where my father had left off...to let first more and more people of my own State, and country, get to know more about this land, Salem in particular. I have previously written a work of fiction named The Stab of Guilt, published by Rockhouse, USA, a decade back. The second work, Fool's Dream, I like to believe, has a literary weight all its own to more than compensate for the lightness of the plot and waiting for a publisher. My third work is Shiva's Trident. I now work and live with my family comprising of my spouse and a son in Dubai, UAE.
