This novel introduces us to the beautiful Bilan, who moved from a simple family to become the wife of the ruler's son. She encounters her husband's strange character for which she cannot find an explanation, and anyone can understand the extent of the grief that ignites in her bedroom every night. Every day a new conflict appears for her, forcing her to commit acts that she never imagined she would commit, all in order to satisfy her husband's desires. In the end, she is faced with the question: Is she guilty or a victim? In a dramatic epic that raises many questions and contemplations, the Chinese writer Zhou Daxin takes us between the chapters of the novel. Zhou Daxin won the Mao Dun Literature Prize, the most prestigious literary award in China. He also won the People's Literature Award in its third session and the Best Short Story Award in China, and many of his works have been turned into plays, films, and series.
