As a student of mass communication, Swarn took a keen interest in the subject and wrote papers on various subjects pertaining to the field of media. Among his published works in journals are 'Portrayal of Women in Media', 'Role of Social Media in the changing world scenario' and 'Media literacy in the Information Age'.
