Haigh's purpose in writing this volume, published in 1903 and based on a lecture series given in Manchester, England, was to familiarize Christians with the main precepts of Hinduism, which stood as a barrier to Christian evangelizing in India. In the conflict between Hinduism and Christianity, Haigh asserts, it is imperative that the Christian Church learn all it can of Hinduism for both its missionary zeal and its sympathetic knowledge. Chapters are dedicated to Transmigration, Hindu pantheism, and Vedantism.
