The Russian novelist and playwright Mikhail Artzybashev did not enjoy the same amount of fame as other Russian writers, such as: Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. He was a supporter of the naturalistic school in art, and the novel "Son of Nature" or "Sanin," which he published in 1907 due to censorship of artistic works. It gained great fame and shocked Russian readers when it was published, as it was based on a liberal vision. Russian society at that time was a conservative society governed by a system of strict traditions. The hero of the novel embodies the mirror of pure nature, as his actions are in harmony with her natural surroundings, free from her social surroundings governed by strict social traditions.
