This is the story of three men who would leave their mark on this American frontier: Emerson Granger, a peaceful man born in an isolated homestead on the Colorado front range, during an episode of horrific violence; abolitionist Silas Soule, who came west to crusade against slavery; and John Chivington, a fiery Midwestern preacher hoping to make a name for himself.

As the whites continued encroaching on Indian land, and the Indians fought back, bloody clashes were inescapable. Friends and family, lovers and foes, none would be spared from the building tension.

That tension boiled over in an act of unspeakable brutality, at a remote and unremarkable settlement known as Sand Creek.

Kelly Cheek has been following a creative muse, in various incarnations, throughout his entire life. In school, he took all the art and English courses he could. He loved creative writing assignments which, as you might imagine, made him extremely popular among both the jocks and the slackers. In his teens, he began trying his hand at writing for fun, pumping out numerous examples of what not to do. Ranging from nerdy sci-fi in his teens, to historical action/adventure in the last few years, he only recently began thinking that some of it might actually be good enough for somebody else to read. Kelly Cheek lives in Denver, Colorado, with his wife and two dogs, where he can often be found hunched over his computer, pouring his lifeblood into his next opus.
