KEVIN JEFFERYS Professor of Contemporary History at Plymouth University, UK. His publications include works of political history such as Retreat from New Jerusalem: British Politics, 1951-1964 (in the British Studies series), and he has also published articles on sporting themes in the journals Sport in History and the International Journal of the History of Sport.
