Focussing on the Thai and Philippine political economies, this book argues that different patterns and performance of economic growth among late developing countries reflect variations in the institutional arrangements between political leaders and the economic technocrats. It examines the different factors influencing economic performance among states that are vulnerable to external shocks, crony capitalism, and political instability.
