Autorenporträt
Blog at www.steelstreasure.com email at steelstreasure@gmail.com Nick Auclair has over twenty years¿ experience as an U.S. intelligence officer, five of those in the Philippines where he spent his free time chasing after the Tiger of Malaya¿s treasure. He currently lives with his wife on a small farm in Virginia and teaches counterinsurgency at the Virginia Military Institute. He is currently working on a novel about the Spanish-American War. Judge #22 at the Annual Writer¿s Digest Self-Published Book Awards (2014) said of Steel¿s Treasure: STEEL'S TREASURE by Nick Auclair is a novel sure to be enjoyed, especially by readers looking for an intriguing, adventurous, down-to-earth novel with an excellent story, and details about what it was really like to serve at a military base in the Philippines in the 1980s. The fact the author bases his story on his own experiences is evident and definitely adds to the enjoyment and authenticity of the book. Readers who don't know a lot about the Philippines will no doubt learn much from this novel. There is a great deal to appeal to women readers, but men should especially enjoy this story because they'll have a deep understanding of and empathy for the hero. All readers will be rooting for this well-rounded protagonist to find the treasure. As for production values, the vibrant colors and off-putting image of a skull wearing a military helmet were nevertheless fascinating to me as a potential reader. I think the cover will motivate readers to investigate the book. The back cover copy is well done. I like that the blog address is shared so readers wanting to know more about the author can investigate. Nice touch that the author lets us know another book is in the works. I am convinced his many fans will be looking for his next work. I feel confident that with his writing talent and background, Nick Auclair can anticipate an excellent career as an author. Steel's Treasure has garnered an honorable mention in the commercial fiction category of the 2014 Eric Hoffer Book Awards and a January 2014 Shelf Unbound award in the "page turner" category. In the July 2015 issue of the Hill Rag, a widely read monthly circulating on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, a reviewer wrote: "The author deftly ties together numerous plot threads in what is as once a rousing adventure and a thoughtful portrayal of the Philippines and its people...Steel's Treasure rings true in every way."
