Rachel Lane was born Rachel Lane Swartzlander in Bremen, Indiana. Her father, a Bremen Police officer, Tony Swartzlander, was killed in the line of duty 1981. Rachel attended a private grade school with a specialized reading program. Even though grammar and spelling was her weakness, her creative ability shined through landing her several awards.
She attended Penn High School, graduating in 1991, then started Messerfly. The idea was born out of a recurring dream involving a medieval tower, men on horse back and being captured. She wrote a list of short stories; some completed some not. In 2001, she started college, majoring in psychology. In her junior year she took a semester leave and planned to return the following fall. Her plan was altered by an accident that left her recovering for a year. All she could do was write, and write she did. She returned to college for only one semester, leaving again to concentrate on being a full-time mom, foster parent, and writer. When she was finished with Messerfly her life became a series of unfortunate events, struggles, personal loss, and heart breaks in an economy that was most unkind.
There is a radiant glow to this rather introverted woman. For years she was quiet about her Psychic ability, more recently she has began speaking about her ability and her near death experiences. She's strong, and fiercely determined. No matter what the set back she always springs back stronger, wiser, and with a deeper level of strength, insight and character. She believes, "The only thing failure teaches, is what we need to do better or differently and try again. Eventually, we will succeed." Whether she is writing, hunting, building something, painting, interacting with kids, or working out at the gym you will find her ready for a challenge.
