The Metapolitefsi ("regime change") was a brief phase of the Greek political history that marked the transition from dictatorship to the most stable democracy that modern Greece has known. But it is not only that. It is also a long period that is identified with the Europeanization of the country, its organic integration into a broader, European framework that was identified in the collective consciousness with modernization, prosperity and a higher culture. Lastly, it is a period that signifies economic, social and cultural transformations, in a globalized environment. "Stories of the Metapolitefsi" is a collective project of historians and social scientists that attempts to map it in all these dimensions and in various fields, politics, economy, society, culture, during the fifty years that have passed. It is the product of a long-standing effort and is based on the view that human reality can only be understood when we take into account how complex and intricate it is, and, further, that one cannot isolate politics from economics, society from politics.
