The student industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) is a skill training programme designed to expose and prepare students of the universities and other tertiary institutions for the industrial work situation they are likely to meet after graduation. It is also planned and structured programme based on stated and specific career objectives which are geared toward developing the occupational competencies of participants. Student industrial work experience scheme is an essential part of a student's academic programme. It normally lasts for a period of 6 months. A student is supposed to be attached to a company or organization that offers service that are related to the student course of study. Training is an integral part of vocational or career development which is fast becoming a global and pervasive phenomenon in any establishment, the absence of which spells doom for such an institution and the presence of which determines the success of any enterprise or company. In another view, training is an organized, coordinated development of knowledge, skills and attitudes needed by an industrial worker to master a given situation or perform a certain task within an organization setting which might be needful in future time. Therefore, the role that training can play in human resource development as aptly capture by Ajidahum (2007) in Libraries and Information System is inestimable and unquantifiable. Training is a key factor in enhancing the efficiency and expertise of the workforce.
