Marie Belloc Lowndes (1868-1947) was a prolific British novelist and journalist known for her engrossing psychological fiction and for her exploration of social themes. Born in Marylebone, London, she was the sister of author Hilaire Belloc and daughter of French barrister Louis Belloc and English feminist Bessie Rayner Parkes. Her most acclaimed work is the 1913 novel 'The Lodger', a suspenseful narrative that fictionalizes the Jack the Ripper murders and has been adapted into several films and plays.
