In the book We'll Always Have Summer, which details their two-year romance, Belly learns that Jeremiah had an extramarital affair with a sorority girl during a frat party. She gives him a smack in the face and then sobs in bed for days. She reluctantly accepts Jeremiah's proposal to show his remorse, but she remains at Cousins Beach due to constant arguments with her mother, who is upset with her for deciding to be married so young. This arrangement causes her previous affections for Conrad, who is also residing there, to gradually reemerge. At the book's conclusion, Conrad declares his love for her.
