In our modern age, a naked soul is about as tough as a lonely chihuahua in a Siberian tundra.
Without the proper attire of reasoning, imagination, wisdom and solidarity with other souls, we can easily fall prey to predators lurking in the bushes: we can easily get swarmed by trivialities, hypnotized by overabundance, sedated by too much comfort, leeched upon by avoidable loneliness and devoured alive by unnecessary stress.
With an epidemic of constipated imagination and bullshit incontinence going around, we risk becoming masked mindless biorobots dutifully marching to psychoses of modern society. Or renounced couch-potatoes self-medicating on distraction and oblivion. Or addicts to selves, with emoticons as our only friends and our only community being the one framed by our 24-inch high-res monitors. It is easy to get tricked into feeling lost when wandering and hesitant when following a goal. It is easy to get fooled into thinking you see the whole world while looking at it through a keyhole. It is easy to become a leaf that thinks it will stay green forever and erases winter from its conception of the world. It is easy to become too confused to choose, too lazy to create, too afraid to dare.
But it does not have to be like that. We can build families, friendships and communities held by real bonds, where you would trust your life to those you call dear ones, watch their back like they watch yours and share much more than a local wifi network. It is up to us to create lives that do not make us doubt our sense of purpose, lives that allow time for playfulness of creativity and joy of discovery to emerge. It is up to us to create places that provide stability, safety and rest while allowing for freedom, adventure and fulfillment. And if there is no leader to show us how to do that, even better: that means the driver's seat is empty and we can move into it.
This book is an investigation into how to achieve all that. It is intense, funny, philosophical and practical all at the same time and is a mix of deep ideas and humorous insights, occasionally peppered with inappropriate ribald innuendos and words I invented that have a clear meaning but no place in the dictionary. Its goal is to research how we can keep our spiritual bearings in the modern age and how we can lead a life that is wholesome, rewarding and enjoyable, so that when we arrive at our final destination and look back at the path taken, instead of seeing a streak of regrets, sadness and selfies, we'll see a lifestory that will make us exclaim "What a ride that was!" and then drop dead with smiles on our faces.
