Swimming in Uncharted Waters chronicles the life of Mandla, a rural boy living in Zimbabwe in the '70s and '80s. As he grows up, he passes through tricky school years and works in a factory before moving to a seemingly serene community as a secondary school teacher, far from the chaos and rush of the cities. But even here, there is more action than meets the eye. Modernity comes as a rude shock to the conservative village community and crude violence accompanies social change. Soon young Mandla finds himself swimming in uncharted waters.
