According to its ancient name, philosophy has not just the task of attaining knowledge, but as a love of knowledge, since one strives to embody what one loves, to introduce what is known into reality. The former falls to philosophy as theory, ie as science, the latter as practice, ie as art. Philosophy as a science arises from the processing of concepts, while philosophy as art processes the real; The purpose of the former is to process the concepts of what is actual and true, whether gained through experience or acquired through habit and tradition, into actual concepts, i.e. into concepts that can stand the test of criticism, both logical and the experiential, endure, attain; this has the purpose, by processing the given material that serves as material, be it in mere thoughts or in existing things, to arrive at a reality that corresponds to the requirements of the concept, that is, to arrive at a reality that conforms to the concept. The objects of the former are therefore concepts which as such are distinguished from things, and the objects of the latter are things which as such are distinguished from concepts. Philosophy as a science is therefore out of this world in a literal sense, while philosophy as art is of this world.
