Shavon J. Smith is the founding partner of The SJS Law Firm, serving as fractional general counsel to businesses in Washington D.C. and Maryland. As an attorney and advisor for nearly two decades-both at a large corporate firm and in her own practice-Shavon understands her job is part-corpus juris and part-psychological. Clients often come to her when their problems are already out of hand. Whether caused by denial, overwhelm, or total system breakdown, runaway problems can be disastrous to a small business. Shavon is committed to helping entrepreneurs create the organizational infrastructure to face, solve, and prevent problems, which will ultimately lead to stronger businesses and more resilient communities.In her free time, she teaches entrepreneurship at Prince George's County Community College, sits on the nonprofit board of Wheeler Creek Community Development Corporation, and serves on the Pro Bono Committee for the D.C. Bar. She regularly lectures at the American Bar Association, various Chambers of Commerce, Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation, National Society of Black Engineers, and District of Columbia Women's Bar Association, among others.Shavon holds a J.D. from Howard University School of Law, and previously clerked for Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and the District of Columbia Superior Court.
